Help

How to get the most out of ReNventory. Can’t find an answer? Email hello@renventory.com.

Logging an item

From the Intake tab, choose Camera, Barcode, Photo gallery or Choose file. Take or pick one photo of the item.

If a price tag is in the photo, ReNventory reads it and fills the cost with the lowest price it finds (usually the sale price). You can always change it.

Scanning a UPC or ISBN fills in the title when it can. With no signal, the lookup waits and fills in later.

Add the source (store), storage location (bin or shelf) and any notes, then Save. The item gets its SKU right away.

Setting up your SKUs

In Settings › SKU format, mix fixed text with tokens: {YY} or {YYYY} for the year, {MM} for the month, {DD} for the day, and # signs for the counter (the number of # sets the zero-padding).

Example: SEAN-{YY}{MM}-#### gives SEAN-2610-0042. The preview shows your next SKU as you type.

Set a starting number to continue an existing system, and choose whether the counter resets monthly, yearly or never.

SKUs use only letters, numbers, dashes and underscores (eBay-safe), and are never duplicated, even when you log items offline.

Logging a lot (bulk buy)

On the Intake tab, tap Start a lot and enter what you paid in total, the source and the date.

Add items one at a time with your estimated cost for each. The lot screen shows how much is left to allocate.

On the last item, use “Last item? Use the $X left”. If your estimates end up over or under, choose Spread the difference evenly or Edit costs by hand.

When the costs add up to the total, tap Complete lot. Unfinished lots wait under Unfinished lots on the Intake tab.

Stages: Waiting to list, Listed, Sold, Death Pile

Every item starts in Waiting to list. Open an item to mark it Listed, Sold (with the sale price and where it sold) or move it to the Death Pile (with a reason and what happens to it).

Made a mistake? Undo moves it back, as many times as you need.

Death Pile items you sell elsewhere (a garage sale, Facebook) can still be marked sold; any shortfall below cost counts as a loss.

Reading the dashboard

Unlisted capital is what you paid for everything waiting to be listed, split by how long it has sat: 0–30, 31–89 and 90+ days. Money from unfinished lots not yet split onto items shows on its own line.

Listed capital is what you paid for items that are listed. Death pile losses count the full cost of donated or written-off items, plus the shortfall on items sold elsewhere below cost.

Tap any number to see the items behind it. The 90+ list, oldest first, makes a good to-list queue.

Offline use and sync

Intake, stage changes and the dashboard all work with no signal. The pill at the top shows how many changes and photos are waiting to upload.

Everything syncs on its own when you’re back online. If you use two phones, the newest edit to each field wins.

If something is missing on another device, Settings › Sync › Re-send all my data sends everything on this phone again; newer changes made elsewhere are kept.
